1. Who can become a member of NALED?

Membership in NALED is voluntary. NALED members may include businesses, local governments, civil society organizations (CSOs), independent institutions, public enterprises and other business entities that accept the association’s Statute, Code of Ethics and values and operate in line with the corporate social responsibility standards and the criteria defined in the Regulation on membership conditions.  

2. Is NALED financed from the state budget?

No. NALED cannot be classified as neither direct or indirect budget beneficiaries, as defined in the Law on Budgetary System of Serbia. The organization is primarily financed from international organizations’ funds, membership contribution, commercial services and domestic funds intended for project realization.

3. Is NALED a state/Government institution?

No. NALED is an independent, non-government, non-profit and non-partisan association bringing together businesses, local governments and civil society organizations, on a voluntary basis.

4. Is NALED a project?

No. NALED is a legal entity established for an indefinite period of time, with rights, obligations and responsibilities determined by the law and its Statute.

5. What is NALED’s financing structure?

NALED is mostly financed from the funds provided by international organizations, based on the acquired projects, which account for 47% of all funding sources. Over the past 10 years NALED managed to ensure funding and implement 92 projects focusing on the organization’s mission. The other two primary funding sources are membership fees (32%) and services (21%).

6. Is NALED a partisan organization? 

No. NALED is a non-partisan association and it provides an independent evaluation of state institutions’ performance, all with the aim of improving the business climate and encouraging economic development of Serbia.

7. Does NALED deal with individual interests?

No. NALED’s membership structure and its concept disables any advocacy of individual interests. NALED brings together and advocates the interests of various entities, striving to reach the most acceptable solutions for all representatives of the civil, public and private sector, through cooperation and dialogue.

8. How are NALED goals and priorities defined?

NALED members determine the goals and priorities in the following manner:

  1. By participating at the annual Assembly session – proposing activities and voting for NALED priorities in the upcoming period
  2. By initiating and joining the work of theme Alliances – in order to initiate a new topic, at least 7% of all members need to be interested and willing to further engage on the implementation of reforms in a certain area
  3. By nominating recommendations for the Grey Book – every year, the members indicate the issues they face in their daily work and provide recommendations for the Grey Book of administrative obstacles to doing business

9. What is the role of NALED in the broader society?

NALED resolves the problems that stand in the way of Serbia’s more rapid economic development, stemming as a result of inefficient public policies, corruption and the lack of effective dialogue among the private, public and civil sectors.
