After more than a decade, conversion of the right to use construction land into property right with a fee proved to be a legal and political failure, which is why NALED launched an initiative to abolish the conversion fee for companies and persons who acquired land based on privatization and bankruptcy, by the end of the year.
According to Jasmina Radovanović, Head of Property and Investment Unit at NALED, the organization proposes that in the second phase, when the land is privatized, the fee should be completely abolished. This would unlock additional investments and create conditions for new jobs on more than 5,000 hectares of unused attractive construction land across the country.
- The point is that the abolition of fee should be in the mutual interest. For the state, that means new investments, enabling the construction of production facilities and the expansion of business complexes, new employment and, of course, new companies. We now have a situation involving a crisis for the entire economy at the global level. We often have a situation of state giving the land for use to foreign investors - both because of the situation with COVID, and because of the crisis in Ukraine. It is necessary to help and lend a hand to domestic businesses - Radovanović told TV Tanjug.
