[RTS] By the end of the year, the eSick Leave service will be available

eSick Leave is a system that the Ministry of Health has been working on for some time, aimed at connecting several points and institutions in the sick leave opening process. These include healthcare providers (doctors and medical facilities), employers who need to be informed when their employees are on sick leave, and the Republic Health Insurance Fund. This service will enable a faster and more optimized procedure for opening sick leave, - stated Isidora Šmigić, Regulatory Reform Manager at NALED, during her appearance on RTS's Morning Program.

According to her, the essence of this system is that patients no longer need to physically deliver medical certificates to their employers when they are sick. Instead, the doctor sends all necessary information through the system directly to those who need it. She emphasized that employers will not have access to medical information but only to the information needed for payroll calculations.

The essential benefit of this system is to ease the burden on patients and citizens, including new mothers, who won't have to physically move during this procedure. On the other hand, the process of calculating compensation for temporary absence will be faster and more efficient, - explained Šmigić.

Regarding the eHealth Record (eKarton), she highlighted that it aims to encompass the complete medical history of patients and enable healthcare providers at all levels to access necessary data.

eKarton will allow doctors to have access to the complete treatment history of patients, enabling patients to avoid repeating tests and carrying results with them. This will enable the state to improve its healthcare system and provide more efficient healthcare, - added Šmigić.

She also addressed the integration of private and public healthcare sectors, noting NALED's recommendation to connect information systems so that doctors in private practice can access patient treatment records from the public sector and vice versa.

This integration is planned in perspective and I believe it will contribute to the overall quality of patient care, - concluded Šmigić.
