Delivery of protective equipment for social workers in 15 cities and municipalities started

German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in cooperation with NALED provided masks, gloves, visors and disinfectants for social work centers and social services employees from 15 cities and municipalities, in order to protect them more effectively, but also to protect those who visit these institutions during  COVID-19.

A donation worth more than 50,000 euros was delivered under the German-Serbian Development Cooperation Project “Social Protection Services for Vulnerable Groups”, and German Development Cooperation has provided this assistance through NALED’s online donation platform recognizing its importance in supporting vulnerable groups and local governments in extraordinary circumstances.

So far, the protective equipment has been delivered to Plandište, Arilje, Kosjerić, Sremska Mitrovica, Ruma and Pećinci and Šid, and in the coming days it will arrive in Priboj, Prijepolje, Sjenica, Užice, Mionica, Lajkovac, Loznica and Krupanj.

- GIZ provides support for improving social protection services, so that they respond as well as possible to the vulnerable social groups’ needs. Regarding health risks posed by the epidemic, it is important to maintain the continuity of service provision and we believe that support in the form of protective equipment will contribute to that - said Iva Vučićević from GIZ.

In early April, NALED launched an online donations platform to connect and unite its members and partners in the fight against COVID-19, primarily local governments in need of assistance with companies and international organizations that can provide it.

- During the state of emergency, when the citizens’ and healthcare institutions’ needs seemed the greatest, through NALED's donation platform, we managed to provide food, medical, protective and IT equipment for 41 municipalities worth 250,000 euros. Now that the epidemiological situation is deteriorating again, we are pleased to be able to hand over almost 95,000 pairs of gloves and as many masks with German Development Cooperation partners, as well as about 4,000 visors and more than 4,000 liters of disinfectants to social workers at risk of this viral disease - says NALED Executive Director Violeta Jovanović.

According to the needs expressed through the NALED platform, 34% of local governments in Serbia point out that donations in medical and protective equipment would be very important in fighting the pandemic and protecting the population.
